When Dr. Grant and entourage arrive on the island, the place is crawling with people: dock workers, game keepers, gardeners, kitchen staff, lab scientists, veterinarians, engineers, maintenance workers, builders, etc. A short while later virtually everyone has left for the mainland save for 4 people in the control room. And all of that because of a simple tropical storm common in these parts? Implausible and improbable.
