Laws of physics: When the plane hits the water (with an enough speed to smash the cockpit windows) frank should have been thrown off his feet and through the front of the plane (like a passenger in a car goes through the windscreen in a crash when not wearing a seat belt).
Instead he is able to run away from the approaching water and jump toward the rear of the plane.
Even if he did this before the crash, he would still have traveled through the cockpit, only feet first.
