After Gimli shatters his axe when attempting to destroy the Ring during the Council of Elrond, the axe shards can be seen surrounding the unharmed Ring, some of them quite close. In all of the subsequent close-up shots of the Ring, however, the axe shards aren't visible near the Ring or in its wide reflection.
