Ethan, Ilsa, and Benji are discussing a plan to get through the gate analysis machine. During the flashback, Benji tries to go through but gets zapped right away and gets caught. When he actually goes through it, he's more than halfway there. The machine wouldn't have moved and the computer would have been alerted that something's wrong with the profile card. Since he was also more than half way there, he could have made a run for it.
