In part one, Julien Sorel is suggesting dresses to Madame de Rênal from her closet. He pulls out an ochre colored dress with red satin trim which Mme de Rênal refuses saying that it would be "far too ostentatious". In part three, the same dress is worn by a guest getting from a buffet table at a party in Paris.
