At the end of the film, Eric Daniels tells an audience before a book signing that his friend Robert Starkman ("Bobby") burned to death in the car crash with Rachel Newman. Yet he and the two police officers saw Starkman's body hanging over the railing on the side of the road moments before the car crash and explosion.
