After shooting both pilots the general grabs a hidden handheld radio and starts conversing with his accomplices on ground. There are a couple of problems. First the aircraft's fuselage acts as a Faraday cage, which hampers such transmissions. To counter this aircraft have radio antennas sticking out of their fuselages. And second, this proofs that even in the movie's universe handheld radios can reach aircraft in the airfield's vicinity. The good guys could have easily used a handheld radio to talk to planes.
