While drinking (and quite possibly while drunk) in a New York City bar, Joe overhears - and somehow remembers - the name of another customer who jokingly confesses to killing a hippie in passing. Days later, Joe not only recalls the man's relatively common name (William Compton) but is able to track him down, supposedly because he's the only person of that name listed in the entire phone book for NYC - a city of over 10 million people, more than a few of whom undoubtedly shared the same name.
