There are numerous errors in the use of automobile airbags in the film. Contrary to the dialogue about them, they do not "fire on impact," but are triggered electrically by a computer responding to external deceleration sensors. Simply attaching loose airbags to any object, without a controller or power supply, will not enable them to fire later.They are also vented to cushion the impact and prevent bounce-back of a person hitting them, meaning that they deflate almost immediately. Even if they did not, their inflated volume would be nowhere near enough to provide buoyancy to any kind of a vehicle in water.
