When Dr. Stone is giving testimony, Captain Ross asks "Dr. Stone, what is lactic acidosis?" Dr. Stone explains that lactic acid is produced when cells in the body "burn sugar instead of oxygen".This gives viewers the impression it is not normal for the body's cells to burn sugar. In fact, the body's cells do normally burn glucose, which is blood sugar. Lactic acidosis occurs when the body's cells burn sugar when there is too little oxygen.
