The soldiers wear uniforms that bear the patch of the 82nd Airborne Division on the left shoulder. Just below that, they are wearing the patch of the 1st Infantry Division ("Big Red One"). Furthermore, the markings on the helmet indicate 101st Airborne Division. Soldiers would not wear unit insignia from three different divisions. Every soldier in the squad is carrying Thompson machine guns. This weapon would've been limited to the squad leader. Basic foot soldiers in WW2 carried the M1 Garand or M1 Carbine.
