Doug and Claire broke off the steering wheel that Claire was bound to and Doug kicked out the driver's side half of the windshield so Claire could swim free with the steering wheel... so why was Doug stuck in the SUV/bomb at all, with half the windshield gone and Doug not bound to anything.
