When Zac blows open the inner airlock door with his explosive bullet, the force of the explosive decompression should have flung him across the lock and into outer space, killing him in the process. He would not have had time to catch himself like he did, nor remain conscious and able to struggle for as long as he did before finally being knocked out of the hatch.
