Up until the point in the film where Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Sybok fly down to Sha Ka Ree, Sybok has long hair and an elaborate costume. Before going down, Sybok changes into a simple Vulcan robe and chops most of his hair off. Later, when the image of "God" changes its appearance into that of Sybok, first it shows "God/Sybok" with the shorter haircut, then in the next shot his hair is long again.
