When Tristan is sitting in the attic with his father and begins reading the letter from his mother, the scene flashes back to when he was an infant and she's composing the letter to him. In that flashback, a brief scene shows the letter as she's writing the first line of the second paragraph. There's a distinct lack of refinement in her handwriting style that is obviously in stark contrast to what had already been written as the first paragraph of the letter. Shortly thereafter, her letter is finished, and she wraps it around a candle. In that shot, the handwriting style is shown as being consistently neat and refined from start to finish.
