The P-47s in the movie are operating from an airfield in England that has wide concrete runways and a huge concrete parking apron. Airfields in England had asphalt runways (some of the actual Army Air Force films used in the movie show P-47s crashing on these type runways) and parked aircraft were usually dispersed around the field to minimize damage if the Luftwaffe tried to strafe. There were no large concrete parking aprons for bombers in England, much less fighters.
