In early scenes, Lester rides to work in a carpool arrangement with his wife and his daughter. Reinforcing the sense he is a loser, Carolyn drives (apparently her Mercedes SUV) and Jane rides in the front passenger seat, relegating him to the lowest position of power in the back seat where he slouches. When he loses his job at the ad agency, he drives himself home in a hither-to unseen Toyota Camry, which is subsequently revealed to be his when he trades it in for a Pontiac Firebird.
