Grandison tells Steve and Matilda that Oliver has run away after firing the gunshot they have just heard from the floor above. Since Oliver's car is not in the garage, it seems that he must have driven away in it. But, as Steve and Matilda immediately rush into the room, he would not have had time to get to the garage and drive the car away. They also do not hear or see the car driving off. Yet they believe this is what happened.
