Bagheera and Louie somehow knew Akela was killed by Shere Khan, yet nobody ever told them about his demise. Louie already established that he had an extensive spy network through his monkeys, and we see birds frequently acting as messengers in the jungle. It is likely both characters learned of Akela's death via these methods.
