When Pierre decides he wants to purchase earrings for Marie, he takes out his pad and makes a notation at the bottom, of the top sheet of his note pad, as he adds to his list of things to do for the day. Yet after his death, when Marie is going thru his affects, she looks thru his note pad and the top sheet says nothing about earrings. To increase the drama for the audience, she must turn to the next sheet, where there is no continuation of a list, only the notation "Buy earrings for Marie" and it has been made at the top of the sheet.
