The scene in which Henry signs Anne's death warrant in a rage insinuates that it was Cromwell who orchestrated her downfall. In fact, it was Henry who decided to rid himself of her, overseeing every detail of her trial and execution, down to using a sword instead of the usual Tudor ax. Historian Leanda de Lisle theorizes that Henry cast himself as King Arthur and Anne as the adulterous Guinevere, hence: "The choice of a sword, the symbol of Camelot, of a rightful king, and of masculinity", typical of his "premeditated, calculating manner".
