When Strangways' secretary is calling London early in the film, she operates the radio transmitter built into the bookcase. The transmitter is a British KW Vanguard designed for the amateur (ham radio) bands using amplitude modulation (AM) and Morse code (CW) running 50 watts input to a single 6146 transmitting tube (valve). Communication using ham frequencies in the 20 metre band would be difficult due to interference from other higher-powered stations and would have been highly insecure.
