From the time Daniel and Lucille arrive to move into the apartment complex, Daniel goes to the beach party, staying until after dark. After presumably going home after his first encounter with Johnny, he rides his bike to school the next morning. Within that limited time span, it's not really clear when Daniel would have been registered for school, especially since Lucille did not accompany him to his first day.
