When Ryan picks Laurentian Abyssal as "someplace deep" where Ramius can stage the the nuclear accident on the Red October
he has in his hands a pen and notepad to write the name of the location down, as he's reading the charts, but he never actually
write the name of the location down. He then turns and hands the pad to Mancuso who somehow knows the location and successfully
signals Ramius who in turn sets a course to Laurentian Abyssal.
