Rev DeWitt was not at Chetewayo's kraal in Ulundi for either the battle of Isandlawana or Rorke's Drift. Ulundi is 55 air miles from Rorke's Drift and 45 miles from Isandlawana. The time frame of the disaster at Isandlawana and the attack at Rorke's drift would not have allowed a runner to reach Chetewayo or DeWitt to have left and reached the Drift in time to warn Chard and Bromhead.
