It is clearly established that the Jackal uses explosive bullets for the assassination, yet when he fires his bullet and it hits the ground beside De Gaulle, there's no "explosion" whatsoever or even a loud sound, which would have surely alerted everyone around him. The bullet is not explosive but mercury tipped.
