When the Borg moved to intercept the Enterprise, it traveled with a cube edge pointing forward. (Mostly likely this was for better, more dramatic visuals.) However, in Star Trek: The Next Generation: Q Who, what was presumably the same cube moved with a flat side forward. Then for the rest of The Best of Both Worlds, the cube moved with a flat side forward.
