When they are driving to Winnipeg, John tells Chloe he mapped the best route. However, if this were really the case, they would never have driven through Oregon or Washington. Winnipeg is north of Eastern North Dakota. The fastest way to get there from San Francisco would be to drive through Nevada, then Idaho, Then through Montana, then to Eastern North Dakota and drive north from there to Winnipeg. (Possibly deliberate by the filmmakers: John's parents lived in Washington state, and John wanted to go there but he didn't want to tell Chloe. So he came up with this route, and told Chloe it was the best route.)
