In the beginning of the film it's been emphatically pointed out that "Nux" needs to be fed other people's blood intravenously to live at all. After the IV line between him and "Max" is severed mid-film, the issue is never brought up again and he's fine on his own. But, Nux did state he only needed a top off so when the line was cut he was probably done with the transfusion.
