When the characters speak French or German, they are clearly speaking the modern versions of those languages, and not the 14th-century equivalent. Most notably, they roll their R's (a voiced uvular fricative), which was not done until the late 18th century, whereas medieval French speakers pronounced R's as an alveolar trill, as speakers of Italian still do.
