Stig was referred to as AWOL, which is not a term used by the United States Navy. The Navy uses the term UA, or unauthorized absence.Because the term UA/Unauthorized Absence falls under Article 86(Absent WithOut Leave or AWOL) of the UCMJ(Uniform Code of Military Justice) it is still a correct term. Also, since many civilians wouldn't know the Navy's term of "UA", AWOL would have been the easier explanation.
