Early in the film, the returning space shuttle, Endeavor, is found to be off course over Los Angeles and in imminent danger. At 14:37 the ground controller, Stick (played by Alfre Woodard), says to a subordinate (referring to the shuttle), "They're gonna hit downtown L.A. at 300 knots." Later, @ 15:18, the space shuttle creates a sonic boom while flying over Dodger Stadium. The shuttle would need to be traveling at least 667 knots to exceed the speed of sound or Mach 1. Also the shuttle appeared after the sound of the boom. Flying faster than the Mach 1 would mean the shuttle should have passed overhead before the loud report was heard.
