Batman's blind desire for vengeance against Joker defeated his altruistic purpose to help humanity by blowing up the chemical plant, with its proximity to Gotham City. Many people would be killed and many would have had to evacuated the ensuing toxic fumes, making Batman seem more like an enemy than a hero.
