A swallow is said to have to beat his wings forty-seven times per second in order to remain airborne. Truth is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is roughly eleven meters per second, or twenty-four miles per hour, beating its wings seven to nine times per second. In the same sketch it's said a five-ounce bird cannot carry a one pound coconut, but no swallow weighs five ounces (the barn swallow, which most English people mean by swallow) weighs only two-thirds of an ounce (20 grams).
