Dutch and his men are shown to be US military special forces operators. As such, they are lawfully bound to follow any legal order given to them by a superior officer. That means that they do not get to "pick and choose" which missions they will undertake and those that they won't.
The entire discussion between Dutch and Dillion later about how Dillion "tricked" Dutch and his men is irrelevant as their job is simply to follow the orders that they have been given. It also makes the General and Dillion seem to be incompetent as not truthfully revealing the nature and scope of the mission Dutch and his men risked failing to achieve the objectives required.
