When Peter is at the Miami Airport's security office, he notices his wallet is missing. If his wallet was missing, including his ID card, he wouldn't have been able to get past the security checkpoint back at Chicago O'Hare. He wouldn't have also been able to buy alcohol on the plane without his ID.
