(at around 10 mins) After Mr Horsnby leaves when he has talked with Clark about the Kent farm, Clark hits a baseball which we then see goes a few thousand miles out into space. To do that, it would have been traveling above Earth's escape velocity of 7.5 miles per second and at that speed it would have burned up whilst going through the atmosphere.
