Charlotte's RAF boyfriend claimed that he wasn't brave when she told him that he was but he was wearing the ribbon for the Distinguished Flying Cross and what looked like the Crimson Ribbon for the Victoria Cross. He may have been being modest but she could have countered his modesty with a mention of the bravery awards that he held to prove her point that he was brave.
