Peter unplugs the alarm clock next to his bed which turns off the alarm, this causes them to sleep in the next morning. When he plugs it back in, it starts flashing at 12:00 and beeps. When Kate and Peter get out of bed after being woken by the doorbell, the alarm clock is shown still flashing at 12:00 and beeping. So how could Kate and Peter have gone to bed the previous night and not noticed this sound coming from the alarm clock right next to their bed, and also noticed it was not displaying the time? Therefore, they would have reset the clock which would have stopped it from beeping, and also reset the alarm and not slept in that morning.
