Jabba the Hutt is holding prisoner Han Solo, a valuable Rebel Alliance asset. Rather than sending a full commando regiment to overwhelm Jabba and liberate Han, the Alliance sends a surgical extraction team of a few people - the irreplaceable Luke Skywalker, the irreplaceable Princess Leia, the valuable Lando Calrissian, and two droids - to break Han out stealthily, when there is plenty of danger to their lives.However nowhere in the film is stated that the Rebel Alliance sent them. The lack of soldiers supporting them, implies they went on their own. Likely without the support of the Rebel Alliance. Although the film doesn't clarify this.
