Even with a successful insanity defense, a person known to have committed murder--especially after a diagnosis of such a poorly understood condition as multiple personality disorder--might very well still receive a lengthy sentence, one they serve in a psychiatric institution rather than a prison. There is no reason for Vail and Venable to both assume Aaron will simply be let free after the 30-day evaluation period.
