At around 1:16:00, the vanguard of the Mexican army enters San Antonio, with no resistance as the Texian garrison and their families are already safely inside the Alamo, though they were taken by surprise as Travis is giving a tour of the Alamo's defenses.On February 23, 1836, the Texians were caught by surprise by Santa Anna's troops while they were living in San Antonio itself. The Texians, their families, and other civilians fled to the Alamo with great haste at Santa Anna's arrival.
