After Michael and S.J. are in the accident, S.J's mother rushes over to the ambulance where he is waiting on a stretcher without a C collar on. If you are being transported to the hospital by ambulance after a car wreck, you are almost always immediately put in a C collar, in case of neck or spinal injury. Since he had struck the airbag AND had facial injuries, he would have been put in the C collar right away.
