An officer objects to Batman handling one of the Riddler's journals, noting that it presents chain of custody issues. Gordon dismisses this by saying that Batman is wearing gloves, and so won't leave any fingerprints. The chain of custody issues go beyond perhaps leaving fingerprints or other forensic evidence and include issues of potential tampering. At trial, Riddler's lawyers could argue that any evidence found had been tampered with by Batman. An experienced investigator like Gordon would know this.
