Right after Éowyn and Merry saying "to battle", there's a scene where a trebuchet is throwing a fiery rock into Minas Tirith. You can clearly see that the rock won't fly for more then a dozen feet or so, thus there's no way it made it over the walls of Minas Tirith like seen in the next shot, unless the trebuchet stood right at them.
