When Sir Charles reads his newspaper while relaxing in the pool, a closeup of the print reveals that it is dated January 24th - the height of winter in France! Even on the Riviera, with a mean temperature of 14 degrees Celsius/60 degrees Fahrenheit during January, it would be too cold to swim in the pool. It would seem to suggest that there was a considerable difference between the setting for the script and when the 'newspaper' was printed for the production.
