The Tahitian girl whom Fletcher Christian romances is Maimiti. According to the book, the correct pronunciation of this name is my-mee-tee. But, Christian, Byam, and others mispronounce it as my-my-tee. In the 1962 remake, however, her name is pronounced correctly.
