After shooting Leatherface, Sally states that now he knows her name. At no point in the original film did she shoot him with a shotgun which would jolt his recollection of her. It makes no sense why she would believe that shooting him would make him suddenly remember her. However, it is her hysterical laughter that she was referring to when she asked Leatherface if he remembers her now.
