The film shows virtually all of the Alamo defenders fighting to the last. There is evidence from Mexican soldiers that many of the defenders tried to surrender. In the chaos of night fighting, as it actually happened, some of the defenders waved white socks or clothes to surrender. Other defenders with them continued to shoot despite this. Seeing this as an act of perfidy, Mexican soldiers were enraged and killed almost every defender they encountered because of this. Some Mexican officers recount that as many as 6-7 defenders were captured alive, presented to Santa Anna whom ordered them executed. It was carried out.
