The movie incorrectly shows the Commander of the Swiss Guard having authority over the investigation, and plain clothes Swiss Guards conducting the actual searches, etc. In fact, the Vatican has its own police force, the Vatican Gendarme, which would have authority for criminal investigations. They share the "close-in" protection of the Pope with plainclothes Swiss Guards, much like the Secret Service for the President of the United States.
